Best Cursive Handwriting Workbook for Kids
many schools have dropped teaching kids cursive writing. That makes it hard to research documents written in cursive (think the Declaration of Independence.) To the rescue come workbooks that teach this skill. We tried out nine different workbooks with actual kids. Then we asked our parent readers for their favorites. Here are the best bets. FYI: We've been reviewing and rating products for the home and families since 1994. We don't take money or freebies from the brands we review. Our work is 100% reader-supported!
What happened to cursive writing?
At some point in the past decade or two, many schools decided that learning to use technology was more important than cursive writing.
That’s a shame, because cursive writing has a some key advantages:
• Many folks think it is faster to write with cursive. And some folks who struggle with print handwriting find it easier to use cursive.
• Good handwriting is important, since most writing in school is still on paper.
• Studies show the more legible a paper, the higher the grade. And cursive is often judged as easier to read.
• Some research says taking notes by hand is better for learning than keyboarding.
These are some of the key reasons why parents still want their kids to learn cursive. And kids with learning disabilities (dyslexia, in particular) find cursive easier to learn than print lettering.
We tried out cursive workbooks with real world kids to see what works best. Here are the ones we like.
